Vincent Marinelli
Vincent
Marinelli has played extensively throughout the Northeastern States appearing
in solo recitals, chamber groups and orchestras on the clarinet, bass clarinet,
saxophone and bassett horn. He was a member of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra
for more than 25 years, retiring in 2006. He is presently a member of the
Opera Delaware Orchestra, and also has served as Principal Clarinetist with
the Delaware Performing Orchestra, and the Grand Chamber Symphony Orchestra.
Additionally, Mr. Marinelli is a member of I Fiati Woodwind Quartet, and
has performed with the Delaware Symphony Woodwind Quintet, Lenape Chamber
Ensemble, Mozart Orchestra of Philadelphia, as well as with the highly acclaimed
Mendelssohn String Quartet. He has also performed with the Detroit Symphony,
the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Worcester (MA) Philharmonic, and the Lancaster
Symphony, where he was a featured Bassett Horn soloist.
As an active
swing band and theater musician, he has performed with traveling Broadway
Production Orchestras in which he played soprano and alto saxophones, clarinet,
flute, and piccolo. In addition, he has performed with Jazz Bands such as,
The Glenn Miller Band under Ray McKinley, The Tommy Dorsey Band under Warren
Covington, The Jimmy Dorsey Band under Lee Castle, The Bob Crosby Band,
and The Sammy Kaye Band.
Vince
directed the Instrumental Music Program at the Alexis I. duPont Middle School
from 1972 until 1991. Awarded Teacher of the Year in 1990, he led his bands
to win numerous awards for outstanding performance and musicianship. A past
member of the faculty at the University of New Hampshire (Plymouth) as Assistant
Professor of Music, he taught clarinet, saxophone, and flute, Jazz History,
Music Education and Appreciation. He presently teaches classes in Woodwind
Methods at the University of Delaware. His academic background includes
a B.Mu.Ed. from Catholic University of America (where he was awarded a full
tuition scholarship on clarinet); M.Mu.Ed. from West Chester University;
M.Mu. from the Philadelphia Musical Academy; and post graduate courses at
Temple University. His teachers include Sidney Forrest, Joseph Gigliotti
and Anthony Gigliotti, and he has also been coached by Donald Montanaro.
Vince received his repair training as an apprentice to Mark Jacobi for
clarinet. He has also attended classes at The Vermont Guild for Flute Repair
with Jonathan Landell and is certified as a Straubinger flute repair technician.
